Sleep Sacks For Baby

Hi friends! I posted on my Instagram stories about Henry’s sleep sack this week and I received a few questions about it so I thought I would answer them here and share some good options here if you’re looking for one!

First, why a sleep sack?

Babies under one year are not supposed to have anything in their crib while they are sleeping. They should have a sheet on their mattress and that is it, due to suffocation issues items can cause. So if your little one does have stuffed animals, loose blankets and pillows in their crib while they are napping or during bedtime, I urge you to remove them.

Along with that reason, since they should not have blankets in the crib, the sleep sack acts as a wearable blanket.

Second, when do you use a sleep sack?

We kept Henry in a swaddle for every nap and bed time up until he was about six months old and started moving around during sleep and breaking out of the swaddle. At that point, having them swaddled if they turn over during sleep can be very dangerous if they don’t have their arms free. I know not everyone swaddles, so this timeline may look different for you! It took a week or two for Henry to get used to being not swaddled. We started with one arm out during nap, then bedtime. Transitioned to both arms out but still swaddled his body. Then started using only the sleep sack.

Third, where can I find a sleep sack?

I’m so glad you asked! You really cannot go wrong when looking for one, as most of them are pretty much the same! There are different fabrics such as bamboo, muslin cotton, quilted, and more. They also come in different sizes to meet your babe where they’re at. Henry’s first sleep sack we received at his baby shower from a dear friend ♥ It’s from Little Unicorn. They have great quality and cute printed sleep sacks. He outgrew that one and his current one is from Bebe Au Lait.

We also used a fleece one with long sleeves during the cold nights!

I put together quite a few sleep sacks below that I think would be great options for your little one!
